  • Naseeba Khader is a Canadian artist based in Mississauga, Canada.
Her work is inspired by the beauty that surrounds her; be it the architectural lines of a minaret, the vivid hues of flowers or the proportionate curves of Arabic calligraphy. Naseeba’s passion is the Art and Architecture of Islamic and Muslim lands. She is currently studying Thuluth and Naskh scripts in the Ottoman School of calligraphy under the tutelage of Master Calligrapher Shahryanshah Sirajuddin. She recently received her ijazah in the Arabic scripts of Riq'a, Diwani and Diwani Jali signed by her teacher Shahryanshah Sirajuddin and his teacher Master Calligrapher Belaid Hamidi.

  • My artwork is inspired by Indian/Deccani Miniature Paintings. The use of wasli paper and Indian stone pigments brings an authenticity to a timeless tradition. My colour palette was chosen to reflect two great Muslim rulers: The Ottomans and the Asaf Jahis.

The structure depicted is a forgotten and abandoned would-be tomb for the last Ottoman Caliph, in Khuldabad, India. Why was it built? and why there?; is still a bit of a mystery. This mystery ignited my curiosity and prompted me to search for some answers. As I tried to navigate the internet about the tomb, I was transported back to a time where the world was changing globally and on a personal level (through my grandparents generation). Hence the title a Bygone Era.
