Farida Rehman is a self-taught painter based in Burlington whose work reflects a rich blend of cultural experience, academic insight, and a deep connection to nature. With a master’s degree in Sociology, she previously lectured at the University of Bombay before turning her focus fully toward visual art. Years spent living in Bahrain and Dubai continue to shape her artistic perspective and creative voice.
Working primarily in acrylics, oils, and mixed media, Farida draws inspiration from nature, admired artists, and themes that evoke emotion, atmosphere, and reflection. Her work leans toward an impressionistic style, capturing light, mood, and feeling with spontaneity and sensitivity. Through landscapes, florals, and still life compositions, she explores both delicate palettes and vibrant, expressive color. She is especially drawn to acrylics, valuing the freedom of layered brushwork that keeps her paintings loose, dynamic, and alive.
For Farida, art-making is an ongoing journey of learning, discovery, and self-expression. Through her paintings, she seeks to create moments of quiet beauty and emotional resonance that encourage viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with both nature and themselves.Acrylic on canvas. This piece centers on two cream and ivory daisies captured in soft, layered brushwork against a moody, textured background of earthy greens, browns, and muted coral accents. The petals carry subtle washes of warm ochre and pale yellow, giving them a sun-lit, almost translucent quality, while the detailed centers draw the eye with fine stamens and deep umber dots. The background is loose and atmospheric, blending impressionist washes with dappled textures that suggest foliage and shadow. The overall mood is quiet and contemplative, like finding wild blooms in a garden at the edge of evening.
