Mehwish Adhi | Harmony and Balance
Mehwish is an internationally trained artist whose creative journey began decades before she picked up a qalam. In 2019, guided by her intuition, she sought expert instruction, eventually studying under Seemi Paracha, Sir Mahfooz Ahmed and Ayten Tiryaki Hoçam. For Mehwish, art is a sanctuary, and Calligraphy is a moment of prayer
commemorated in ink. Her fascination with Quranic scripts, which began in childhood, drew her to Calligraphy, while the delicate intricacy of Tezhip reflected her appreciation for ornamentation and detail. Through these ethereal art forms, she connects with a lineage of artists who perfected them before her. With Master Ayten Tiryaki as her esteemed mentor, Mehwish continues to enhance her skills in the sophisticated art form, honoring its rich traditions. Through her work, she embodies the truth that artistry requires patience and devotion—a reminder that even the most intricate patterns start with a single line.Unity in diversity – Tezhip is a harmonious visual language, speaking through balance, rhythm, and proportion. Each line in this design is continuous, soft and unbroken – it reflects the nature’s rhythm where everything alive is undergoing transformations. The spiral form which brings harmony and balance is because of two important elements – lines and motifs (flowers) – providing more than a visual element.
A close analysis reveals that it represents the sacred motion – planets’ orbits, unfolding of leaves and twirling of dervish. For balance, true symmetry is organically used – following the proportions as found in nature like the structure of a flower or balance of a petal and sepal. With all of these features in place in this piece, harmony breathes along
these spiral lines – showcasing perfection is alive here with delicate irregularities. Within this interplay of lines and colors, this art becomes Holy, surpassing physical form to embody the sincerity of the soul.
