Jaweria Imran | Dwellings of Light
A textile designer turned painter, art instructor, and entrepreneur, Jaweria Imran is driven by texture and inspired by the endless possibilities of colour, composition, and visual storytelling. Working primarily in mixed media and resin art, she creates expressive pieces that fuse artistic freedom with technical precision. Her background in woven, printed, and digital textiles continues to shape her practice. Embroidery, fabric, and
decorative motifs find their way into her work, lending it a tactile, layered quality. Each piece begins with experimentation: she builds depth and dimension by pushing materials against one another, letting texture guide the composition as much as colour does.
Jaweria earned her Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Textile Design from the University of Karachi in 2009 and relocated to Canada the same year, where she has since built a thriving creative practice — rooted in craft, sustained by curiosity, and shared generously with her community through teaching and mentorship. At its core, her work is an ongoing conversation between discipline and instinct — between the precision of design and the freedom of paint and mixed media. This stacked-domes painting gives visual form to the idea that faith and home are not singular events but layered, ongoing things — a single imagined dwelling. The structure mirrors how faith is lived at home: not as one grand gesture, but as many quiet spaces built up over time — a doorway, a niche, a windowsill.
Roses bloom across the domes and vases rest at thresholds, marking the domestic rituals that turn architecture into home. Mashrabiya screens and geometric lattice filter light the way faith filters daily life. Each arch and mihrab-shaped niche marks a threshold between inside and outside, self and sanctuary.
