Qudsiyyah Bhayat | I am as My Servant thinks I am
Dr Qudsiyyah Bhayat is a South African born and trained Canadian physician who embarked on her journey studying the art of Islamic Calligraphy over six years ago and has the honor of being the first Canadian and female South African to be granted the Ijaza/Traditional Licence to transmit and create artworks with her signature by her teachers Turkish Master Calligraphers Ferhat Kurlu and Mumtaz Seçkin Durdu, with endorsement by Grandmaster Hasan Celebi, in the Thuluth and Nesih scripts. Her first two years of learning were with Spanish master Nuria Garcia Masip. Her learning thereafter was facilitated by IRCICA, the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture in Istanbul. The lineage of Calligraphers traces back over 700 years. Qudsiyyah works as part time Family Physician in Edmonton, Alberta, and devotes her week to the different facets of Islamic calligraphy including teaching and different commissions and projects, and has been invited to participate in various events, workshops, presentations and exhibitions.
