Shazia Naseem | Hasbi-Allah
Shazia is a self-taught artist inspired by Islamic culture, sacred architecture, and Quranic calligraphy. Her journey began with an admiration for Arabic script and grew into a spiritual practice, where each stroke reflects remembrance of the Divine. Influenced by Sufi thought, she seeks to capture presence and meaning in her work. By layering line, color, and texture, Shazia transforms calligraphy into living forms that celebrate faith and Islamic heritage.
This calligraphic work features the powerful verse from Surah At-Tawbah (9:129)
“Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. In Him I put my trust. And He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
This work explores faith as a source of refuge, trust, and surrender. The rich green background symbolizes faith, growth, and spiritual renewal, while the luminous gold calligraphy emerges as an expression of divine light and guidance. For me, calligraphy is more than a visual art form; it is prayer made visible. Each letter becomes an act of contemplation, while the surrounding textures embody life's uncertainties, journeys, and quiet struggles. At the heart of the composition, the verse serves as an anchor, reminding us that Allah is suƯicient, and in Him we place our trust.
This piece reflects my belief that faith is not always expressed through certainty or grandeur. Often, it reveals itself in moments of quiet resilience, oƯering the assurance that no matter the circumstances, there is always a place to turn and a source of unwavering strength.
