Abdul khaliq | Twilight Serenade
Abdul Khaliq is a Pakistani-Canadian artist whose practice is rooted in Contemporary Realism, with a focus on landscapes and still life in oil. Born and raised in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, Khaliq was initially self-taught and later deepened his artistic voice amidst the cultural vibrancy of Lahore. After relocating to Canada, he became an active member of the Waterloo Region arts community, exhibiting extensively through both solo and group shows across Ontario. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Best of Show Honors at the Kitchener Waterloo Artists’ Association and Button Factory Arts’ Annual Juried Show. In 2023, his solo exhibition “The In Between” at Homer Watson House & Gallery marked a significant milestone in his career. Khaliq’s practice reflects an exploration of atmosphere and emotion through tonal harmony, blending earthy palettes into misty, immersive compositions. His paintings are represented in both private and public collections, including Cambridge City Hall and NUMUS, Waterloo.
My artistic practice is rooted in Contemporary Realism, with inspirations drawn from the landscapes, objects, and surroundings that shape my everyday life. Working primarily in oil, I explore its depth and versatility through a wide palette of earthy shades, blending tones to create misty, tonalist, and harmonized effects that reflect both atmosphere and emotion. Growing up self-taught in the remote, picturesque regions of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, I was deeply moved by the natural beauty around me, as well as the cultural richness of Lahore, Punjab, where I began to further develop my artistic voice. With experience exhibiting extensively in Pakistan, my relocation to Canada expanded my journey, allowing me to present work in public and private venues, group exhibitions, and several solo shows. My oil paintings, often landscapes and still life, serve as both catharsis and self-expression, inviting viewers to experience connection, reflection, and aesthetic fulfillment.
