Yusra Naim | The Vast Expanse

Yusra Naim is a Canadian artist and animator who specializes in storytelling and worldbuilding. Familiar with multiple mediums, Yusra Naim creates a large range of variety in her work including traditional mediums such as acrylic and gouache paintings, graphite, conte, pastels, and colour pencils, as well as digital drawing and animation
softwares to create art pieces filled with whimsy and wonder. Her subjects range from fictional fantastical creatures of her own imagination to depictions of real creatures, critters and people. These are often inspired by the beauty of the world around us - a reminder that the most interesting and fantastical world is the one we live in.

 

Growing up, I went on a myriad of camping trips with my family. I often wonder if it is due to these experiences that my deep love of nature exists or if it was something that had already existed within me. Either way, in the wide open spaces is where I always felt most at peace and at home. The grandeur around me made me feel small, and yet, rather than resulting in a feeling of hopelessness, I always received a sense of relief - what felt like big problems and terrifying moments that many of us experience on the rollercoaster of life suddenly felt small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Life was once again as approachable as it could be.
