Zunaira Mufti | The Mosque cathedral: The Rise and Fall of Al-Andalus

Rooted in Pakistan's rich cultural tapestry, Zunaira Mufti is a multidisciplinary architect and artist whose work merges architecture, symbolism, and storytelling. Her artistic journey is deeply shaped by her cultural heritage, architectural training, and passion for preserving memory through art. Drawing inspiration from cultural traditions, spirituality, poetry, and the natural world, her paintings invites viewers into quiet reflection and emotional resonance. Through layered narratives and symbolic imagery, she explores themes of identity, belonging, heritage, and the enduring connections that transcend time and place.
As the founder of ZDot Design Studio, Zunaira combines her artistic practice with community engagement by curating exhibitions, leading workshops, and creating inclusive spaces that encourage creative expression. She is a member of the Fine Arts Society of Milton and an art instructor at the First Ontario Arts Centre Milton, where she mentors emerging artists and contributes to the region's vibrant arts community.
In 2024, she co-founded The Artist Cube, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting Muslim artists and celebrating diverse cultural voices through the arts.
Through her exhibitions and collaborative initiatives, Zunaira creates meaningful experiences that inspire dialogue, foster inclusion, and celebrate the stories that connect cultures, generations, and communities.

Here, architecture becomes poetry and stone transforms into an expression of devotion, giving rise to one of the most extraordinary monuments of Islamic civilization. Inspired by Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s poem “Masjid-e-Qurtuba,” the work reflects on the enduring spirit of faith while echoing a sense of longing for a sacred space silent through centuries. The painted arches symbolize the resilience of a civilization that illuminated Spain with knowledge, artistry, and spirituality. Their reflection mirrors history, reminding us how memory and legacy continue to echo through time.
